Most CBD companies won’t tell you how their gummies are made because they don’t actually make them. They buy from a contract manufacturer and slap their label on it.
We’re the manufacturer. So here’s exactly how we make CBD gummies in our 3,700 sq ft facility in Louisville, KY.
Step 1: Ingredients
Everything starts with what goes in. Here’s what we use and why:
Organic Tapioca Syrup — This is our sweetener base. Most gummy manufacturers use corn syrup because it’s cheap. We use organic tapioca syrup because it’s cleaner, non-GMO, and honestly just tastes better. Yes, it costs more. We think it’s worth it.
Distilled Water — We don’t use tap water. Period. Distilled water means no chlorine, no fluoride, no minerals that can affect taste or consistency.
Pectin — Our gummies are vegan. We use pectin (from fruit) instead of gelatin (from animals). This matters to a growing segment of customers.
Natural or Artificial Flavors — Depending on what you want. We stock 50+ flavor options.
Natural or Artificial Colors — Your choice. Natural colors from beet root, spirulina, turmeric. Or FD&C colors for vivid pops.
Hemp-Derived Cannabinoids — CBD, THC, CBN, CBG — whatever your formulation calls for. All sourced from licensed US hemp farms.
Step 2: Formulation
Before we make a single gummy, we lock in the recipe:
- Cannabinoid type and dosage per gummy
- Flavor profile
- Color source
- Sweetness level
- Texture (softer vs firmer)
For custom orders, we may do a small test batch first to make sure the flavor and dosage are exactly right.
Step 3: Cooking
The base ingredients — tapioca syrup, water, pectin, sugar — go into commercial cooking kettles. Temperature control is everything. Too hot and you degrade the cannabinoids. Too cool and the mixture doesn’t set properly.
We cook to a specific temperature, then let the mixture cool to the right range before adding cannabinoids. This is where experience matters — the window for adding CBD/THC without degrading potency is narrow.
Step 4: Depositing
The liquid gummy mixture is poured into molds using precision depositing equipment. Each mold cavity is measured to ensure consistent weight — which means consistent dosage per gummy.
Our gummies are cube-shaped. Each one weighs the same, looks the same, and contains the same amount of cannabinoid. Consistency isn’t optional in manufacturing.
Step 5: Setting
Gummies need time to set. They sit in temperature-controlled rooms while the pectin firms up. This takes 24-48 hours depending on the formulation.
Patience here is the difference between a gummy that holds its shape on a shelf and one that turns into a sticky mess in a customer’s pocket.
Step 6: Coating
Once set, gummies get a light coating — usually a sugar or sour coating depending on the flavor profile. This serves two purposes: it tastes good and it prevents gummies from sticking together in the bag.
Step 7: Lab Testing
Every single batch gets sent to a third-party lab. Not our lab — an independent, accredited facility. They test for:
- Potency — Does each gummy actually contain the stated amount of CBD/THC/CBN?
- Purity — No heavy metals, no pesticides, no residual solvents
- Microbial — No harmful bacteria or mold
- Compliance — THC content under 0.3% by dry weight (federal legal limit)
We don’t ship a single gummy until the COA (Certificate of Analysis) comes back clean. Every order includes the COA for that specific batch.
Step 8: Packaging
If you ordered retail-ready bags, your gummies are counted, weighed, and sealed into resealable stand-up pouches. Labels are applied. Each bag gets a lot number tied to the lab results.
If you ordered bulk, gummies are packed into food-grade containers for you to package yourself.
Step 9: Shipping
Orders ship nationwide via standard carriers. Most orders arrive within 3-5 business days after production is complete.
Why This Matters for Retailers
When a customer asks “where do these gummies come from?” — you should have an answer. Knowing your manufacturer, their process, and their standards is a competitive advantage.
We’re not a black box. We’re a real facility in Louisville, KY with real people making real gummies. We’ll send you photos, COAs, and if you’re ever in town, you’re welcome to visit.
